Tove Lo brings her disco paradise to D.C.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Jolts of electricity buzzed through The Anthem as Tove Lo made her first appearance. The energy overtook the entire crowd, with the packed venue screaming at the pop-singer’s gracious entrance in the D.C. venue on Sept. 14, 2023.

The Swedish singer nears the end of her Dirt Femme Tour in the nation’s capital, and she was joined by alternative musician UPSAHL.

UPSAHL prepared the crowd for Tove Lo perfectly, with her unique voice and captivating instrumentals that force you to move and make you want to sing along. Her white monochrome outfit and her band’s pink jumpsuits oozed coolness that transferred into the music. Despite the limited stage space, the 24-year-old singer made sure to utilize all of it. She jumped across the stage, interacted with her bandmates, and made sure to get the audience in on a chorus by feeding them the lyrics before songs began. She was an amazing performer, and I am looking forward to the day she headlines a show in the same venue.

Soon after UPSAHL’s performance, Tove Lo’s band graciously entered the stage, waving to the audience, putting their hands together in thanks, and bowing. It was one of the most delightful and kind entrances I have seen from a band. The princess of grunge pop strutted onto stage with her platform boots and iconic gold bodysuit, immediately began singing my personal favorite song, “Pineapple Slice.”

The entire show was otherworldly. She danced all around the stage while remaining engaging with the crowd all night. She even had three different outfits for the entire show, looking amazing in each one. The dreamy cloud set and colorful lighting in every song added to the surreal event. Just like her band, Tove Lo had a gracious attitude. She seemed like she enjoyed being out on the stage as much as the fans enjoyed seeing her up there, with her warmth being felt throughout the entirety of the venue.

She took the audience on an emotional journey, sharing anecdotes from her life that surrounded songs like “Grapefruit” or “Suburbia.” The impactful messages in her music combined with her disco sound created a freeing feeling, where you could dance the night away with this community she has brought together. This beautiful show still gives me goosebumps when I think of it, and I am itching to see what she does with her next project.
