Bone-chilling vocals: mehro stuns Songbyrd Music House

WASHINGTON D.C. — mehro graced the DMV with a passionate performance at Songbyrd Music House on March 2, 2024.

The night started strong with effortless vocal runs by artist King Isis. With only a guitar in hand, King Isis played a mix of snippets of original songs, like “Monkey,” and covers including a dreamy rendition of Billie Eilish’s “Happier than Ever.” The solo act set the stage for a night of moody musings.

mehro took the stage with a captivating start with “dopamine” followed by hits like “pirate song” and “ketamine.” We were also treated to acoustic stylings of songs like “who are you” and a particularly emotional rendition of “lightning,” which was inspired by the loss of his friend and grandfather on the same day.

With the stage presence of a seasoned vet and the charm of your favorite boy band member, mehro is the total package. Not to mention the vocals. Holy moly, the vocals. mehro sounded just like the recordings – if not better. Their vocals have a uniquely full and booming resonance to them unlike any other artist I’ve yet seen live. There’s a depth to the perfect pitch that adds an extra layer of impressiveness to mehro’s live performance.

mehro took some breaks from showing off their vocals to address the crowd directly, offering advice and expressing gratitude. They emphasized the important role that mindset has in shaping reality, noting that what you believe yourself to be true is true and emphasizing the need to be patient and kind with yourself. mehro also gave a special shout out to a certain Bob Boilen, the co-creator of Tiny Desk, who was in attendance; mehro essentially credited Tiny Desk for launching their career, making their Songbyrd Music House performance all the more special.

The artist’s songs touch on topics of loss, rejection, and past love. But don’t be fooled; they can’t be placed in a box. Or at least they don’t want to be. Debuting some punk rock pop and sad dance songs to go along with the already published melancholy indie collection, mehro ended the night on a high note.

While continuing their tour, mehro will also release new music later this month. I feel grateful to have had the chance to be in such an intimate venue with a musician who will one day be a household name. mehro is simply fantastic, and I can’t wait to see them live again.
