WASHINGTON D.C. — English indie-alt-punk band The Kooks headlined The Anthem on March 13, 2024. Daisy the Great opened, followed by fellow indie rock band from across the pond, The Vaccines.

In black bootcut pants, black polished shoes, and a white billowy shirt, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Pritchard took the stage alone, starting the night off with “Seaside.” During the first song, Pritchard was relatively subdued, singing stationary at the mic, but quickly made full use of the stage with high energy singing and dancing the rest of the night.

Lead guitarist Hugh Harris had a standout performance, with multiple solos that garnered audience applause. “This guy can play,” said Pritchard in reference to Harris, who he has considered a brother for the last 15 to 20 years.

According to Pritchard, the eclectic D.C. crowd on a brisk Wednesday night was more fun to play to than their previous New York counterparts. After claiming the show was over, The Kooks later played an encore to an audience who never doubted their return. “I think you know what it’s gunna be,” said Pritchard before playing “Naïve” to close out the night.
