WASHINGTON D.C. — Violet Chachki seduced the crowd with her “Mistress Violet” whip and dominatrix demeanor. Reveal after reveal, she embodied the dark feminine she loosened us up for Allie X at 9:30 Club on November 6, 2024. 

Allie X came out in the fashion of her new album Girl With No Face. Each member of the band wearing a detailed mask, with one in particular dressed in the style of Phantom of the Opera who directed the crowd with hand gestures. As we followed, Allie X came out looking towards the crowd with her faceless mask. 

She did not reveal her face until the second song, and even then her face was covered in a white fishnet veil with white mascara’d eyelashes poking through. She vividly contrasted the dim lit crowd in her sheer white Victorian dress. It was styled in a refreshing modern fashion: ripped, hiked up, and a tight corset accentuating her femme fatale. 

Her vocals sent the whole crowd into an euphoric spell. Almost siren-like, she wrapped us all in her ethereal voice. The dark synth-wave clashing with her hypnotizing lyricism brought the crowd together after the saddening days prior. She spoke to that, saying: “But fuck it, we are going to celebrate anyway. We are going to celebrate our community, our resilience, our fierce looks, and the color we bring to the world.”

Allie X then went straight into “Off with Her Tits,” speaking to the gender dysphoria of having breasts. During ‘Bon Voyage,’ she had a holographic and sheer fabric fly behind her, creating a stunning reflection of colors. It simulated a sense of flying in the air or floating in water. Her artistic vision shined throughout the entire show, each song colored to reflect off her white outfit, embodying the emotion of the song. Truly a vivid masterpiece of visual and auditory art.
