WASHINGTON D.C. — The Washington Spirit clutch the quarterfinal win with an overtime goal against Bay FC with a sold out crowd at home on November 10, 2024.

The match remained scoreless for 82 minutes as both sides battled for chances. Bay F.C.’s Asisat Oshoala scored after a scramble in the box. In true Spirit fashion, the late game goal by Tara McKeown came only four minutes later, with the center back rocketing the ball outside of the 18-yard line. Audi Field was roaring. This marks McKeown’s first goal of the season and it is the Spirit’s 12 goal scored in the last 15 minutes of the second half, according to the Washington Spirit.

The fans and team were both buzzing with energy, the goal a revival. The Spirit’s offensive attacks for the rest of the second half set the tone for what was to come in overtime. And at the 96th minute, the Spirit’s offensive storm paid off. Trinity Rodman crossed the ball into the box, and it deflected off of Bay FC’s Caprice Dydasco, landing into the net. The Spirit denied Bay FC’s attempts throughout the rest of overtime, and the score remained 2-1.

The Spirit advance to semi-finals, with a match against Gotham FC in Audi Field up next.
