WASHINGTON D.C. — Soccer Mommy’s first night in DC was perfectly balanced by opener L’Rain at 9:30 Club on January 27, 2025. Soccer Mommy performed two shows in the nation’s capital, one at the historic night club and one at the newer Atlantis.
L’Rain began the show and entered in a gorgeous denim outfit with a streetwear essence. The cool tones of the lights and the backdrop created a serene, psychedelic dream. Then, she took you on a trip of synth-ethereal vocals and notes. It felt like a guided mediation to unlock your heart chakra. Her deep lyrics with instrumental genius invoked every emotion, laying me out to feel and think while soaking in her music. She brought the crowd back to reality and left us with a body high, floating as Soccer Mommy took the stage.

Soccer Mommy felt like the perfect meal after an amazing appetizer, complementing the vibes L’Rain had left us with. Although Soccer Mommy has a more surf-indie-rock vibe, she beautifully shifted from slow to more head-rocking drums. Her echoing vocals with her nostalgic rhythm felt like a soundtrack of each audience member’s personal movies. Coming-of-age scenes about growing older, falling in love, and experiencing heartbreak and struggle would be perfectly encompassed by Soccer Mommy. Every song hit in places you did not think it could. Most songs reminded me of laying in bed staring at the ceiling and trying to piece your life together. Her overall reminiscent energy engulfed the crowd like a warm hug.
